Here is a roundup of some of the most expensive wall clocks available for purchase and some interesting facts on the history of clocks.

This one is created by James Lea and hand signed. It was reproduced from the original and is a fine replication of the Presentation Banjo Clock. It sells for 2400.00 without the bracket and $2600.00 with. The original Simon Willard Presentation Clock was often presented to someone as a gift on a momentous occasion.

The entire front of the clock is embellished with 23 K gold leaf and will fit in at the most formal of settings. The scene on the lower door of the clock is “The escape of the Constitution” depicted from the famous battle in Boston Harbor during the Revolutionary war.

The Simon Willard’s Improved Timepiece sells for $1800.00 without the mahogany bracket and $2000.00 with it. It is made of solid mahogany and is a reproduction of the original Banjo Clock. Simon Willard, born in Grafton, Massachusetts in 1753 is considered to be the Father of American clock making. Prior to his having patented the eight-day wall clock movement, this particular superior clock had to be imported from Europe, or you could purchase what was known as an American tall clock. Both types of wall clocks were beyond the means of all but the wealthiest early Americans.

Mr. Willard called his clocks “improved timepieces” and took great pride in his superior workmanship on a clock which was of the very best quality keeping accurate time and being a work of art. The eagle finial, side arms and bezel are hand finished case brass. The geometric design is hand painted on the reverse side of the glass exactly as the original clock was.

A young man named Eli Terry began making clocks at the age of 14. He had very little formal education but was a dedicated clock maker who completely transformed the clock making industry. In 1807 Mr. Terry began the process of mass production of clock parts allowing for standardization of clock parts. The Watertown Connecticut factory used waterpower to drive the machinery. Thousands of clocks were made and familiar names such as Seth Thomas, Silas Hoadley and Chancey Jerome.

This is a reproduction of the Pillar and Scroll decorative wall clock which he personally designed and patented in 1812. Originally it sold for $1.00. Seth Thomas bought the rights to make and sell this clock for $.50 each and it became the most widely produced clock of the Nineteenth century. This reproduced clock sells for $2295.00.

McIntosh created a very unique and expensive wall clock called the MCLK12 priced at a mere $2,000.00. A name that is well known for high-end audiophiles such as $15,000.00 classic system and the standalone $7500.00 Integrated tabletop audio system.

Check out this beautiful hand carved wall clock which is created by a master craftsman in the Black Forest of Germany. The list price is $3,830.00.

This beautiful little cuckoo clock contains dancers which revolve on the turntable every hour and every half hour and is constructed of brass mechanical movement with a clock case containing a moving waterwheel and wagoner. It also boasts a delightful mechanical music box which plays two alternating melodies and a cuckoo bird which cuckoos on the hour.

The glass front faceplate reveals dual analog gauges. They resemble the gauges on a normal power amp where we would watch the watts coming from the channels. These meters indicate the time with the left one shows the hours while the right one shows the minutes. This wall clock is sure to draw attention and add interest to any room.

It’s that simple my friends, if you learn to trade smart you’ll make money just like thousands of traders from all over the world. First, you have to stop listening to your friends who keep telling you that trading stocks and currencies is nothing but luck and that if you want to make money you’ll have to work day after day for 8-9 hours. They are partially correct because you will make money if you work each and every day for 30 years, but you’ll make more money from trading if you follow strict and proven rules, strategies and tips because trading is not gambling and it has nothing to do with luck, it’s all about analysis and understanding the psychology of people.

Now, take a pen and paper and write down these rules because they will help you make money from trading but remember to follow them each and every time:

Trade with an amount of money that suits you – You should always suit according to the amount of money that suits you. What does that mean? Remember that trading is not easy and that it will take time to master the market, that is why you will lose some money at first before you start seeing profit and so, trade with a small amount of money at first and only when you gain more confidence and experience you should add more money to your bankroll.

Always be prepared prior to trading day – If you do your homework before trading starts you will know exactly how much money you’ll make and limit your losses to a minimum if your trade was not successful, this way you’ll earn more than you lose and will be at profit the more you trade. Know when to enter and exit positions at all time and never guess.

Always work with your mind – Trading is all about analyzing the market right and has nothing to do with luck or gambling, but it’s also important that you work with your mind, be cool, calm, know to set orders for your positions and not trade according to emotions of gut feelings, that leave to the casino. Don’t get nervous or upset every time the stock or currency moves up or down, set the automatic orders to buy and sell stocks and currencies and don’t sell or buy before the prices you set for yourself when you did your homework because this was the time when you were calm and worked with your head so these are the correct prices for trade.

Never Give Up – Maybe the most important tip I can give you. Trading will not be easy at first but as thousands of traders all over the world make a living from trading so can you, if you have self-discipline, if you work smart, if you read charts even when you’re not trading to the point where 2-3 minutes will be enough to read an entire chart of a stock or a currency, if you learn from your mistakes and if you have belief in yourself you will make money. It’s all about determination and knowing you can succeed because this is not lottery and that means money can be made and a lot of it.

These are only a few important tips and rules I can share with you but there are a lot more that can help you become a better trader and eventually leave your day job and do whatever you desire when you’ll have a lot of time and money for yourself and your family.

I would have wished you good luck, but luck has nothing to do with it as you already know!

The difference in drinking pattern makes such difference. Where Europeans, drink a moderate amount of spirit everyday , Indians tend toward binge-drinking

When traveling, there is always a possibility that bed bugs may be encountered. If you follow a few simple steps, you can protect yourself, as well as your traveling companions, from bed bug infestations.

Before you leave

• There is one thing you can do before you leave on your trip, even before you make your hotel reservations. By checking bed bug hotel registries online, you can learn of places to avoid due to bed bug infestations. It is a free resource that will guide you in making a decision as to the best hotels in which to stay.

What to do upon arrival

• When you reach your hotel, you need to do a thorough check of your room, and that includes everything, not just the bed and bedding. You should have a flashlight available in order to accomplish a close inspection. A magnifying glass is also a valuable item to have on hand. Investigate all of the bedding, especially folds and seams. You will want to check the mattress, the bedsprings and bed frame. Inspect the room itself as well, including around lamps, behind the headboard of the bed and wall hangings, in the corners of drawers, and in every seam, fold and pleat of upholstered furniture.

What to look for

• When you perform your inspection, you will be looking for black specks that resemble pepper. These specks are actually fecal matter left behind by bed bugs. Ugh. You will also be looking for red stains, shed skin and tiny eggs or egg shells. You may even find bed bugs themselves if there is an infestation. They can grow up to ¼ inch, are usually reddish-brown in color and have six legs. They are flat but will plump up when they have had a meal of blood, which is their food source.

Keep your suitcases off the bed

• Never put any suitcases on the bed. You will also want to keep them off the floor. Instead, put luggage on a table or a desk. If a luggage rack is available, this is also a good location for suitcases. You may also want to keep your clothing in plastic bags within your suitcases, and the bags should remain tightly closed throughout your stay. Cloth suitcases will enable bed bugs to hide in folds and seams. If you have hard-shell luggage, there will be less places for pests to invade. Also, hard-shell suitcases hold up better in airports.

Use bed bug sprays

• A bug spray is a good item to have with you. When you reach your hotel room, spray bedding and any other places where pests can hide. Even after a thorough inspection that has not revealed any bugs, it still pays to be safe.

When you arrive home, you will want to unpack your suitcases outside or on a hard surface. You can even unpack in your dry bathtub. Put all of your clothing items in the washing machine and wash them in hot water. If you follow the above tips, you can have safe travels without bed bugs.

Karen Barnes uses these tips to avoid bed bugs whenever she travels away from home.

With the new emphasis on green manufacturing, students pursuing an engineering degree are faced with new challenges when it comes to staying ahead of the technology curve. One such challenge has been designing a car that is small, fuel efficient, and—most importantly—affordable.

R.C. Bhargava, chairman of Maruti Suzuki , India’s biggest carmaker, told Reuters, “Everybody is working on hybrid, fuel-efficient and green technology vehicles. There’s an exciting race to find a small, cheap hybrid car for India, which will certainly be a winner.”

Until recently, it appeared as if the “winner” of the make-a-smaller-more-fuel-efficient-car race was the Tata Nano. Launched in 2008, this car boasted room for four (and a guitar), with the allure of a low, low price tag. Since then, engineers have reworked the Nano, driving out any glitches; the result is a Nano that is compact and fuel efficient, still with the cheap price tag.

Now, however, there is a new contender in the race. Well, sort of. Bajaj Motors, best known for their motorcycles and two- and three-wheeled motorized rickshaws, has now officially debuted their first four-wheel vehicle, the RE60. Bajaj is reluctant to call their new vehicle a car—preferring the term “four wheeler”—and plans to market it to rickshaw drivers.

The RE60 is fitted with a one-cylinder, 200 cc engine, and would deliver 35 kpl (82 mpg). Top speed would be about 70 kph (43 mph). Unlike a rickshaw, which has a soft roof, the RE60 has a hard roof; also unlike a rickshaw, the RE60 has seatbelts, doors, and windows that fold out rather than roll down. With a modest price tag of $2,750, the RE60 is affordable, costing just 25% more than a rickshaw.

“At Bajaj Auto, we believe the people of this planet deserve much better, much faster,” Rajiv Bajaj, managing director of Bajaj Motors, said in a statement. “We, therefore, decided to focus our efforts on developing vehicles powered by engines using available natural resources and infrastructure.”

Many rickshaw drivers are unsure of this new addition. Suran Singh, who has been driving a rickshaw for 26 years, said, “Doors and a hard top would help keep out the cold during the winter, but would make me too hot in the scorching New Delhi summers. This is better to drive in hot weather because it’s cloth. In Delhi, it gets hot in the summer, and we’ll be sweating it out in a car.”

Others are also seemingly unimpressed with the RE60. “After seeing the RE60, you realize what a phenomenal achievement the Nano is,” said Mr. Sorabjee, editor of Autocar India. “The RE60 is nowhere near a full-sized car which the Nano is. Clearly it’s just not got the sophistication of the Nano.”

It remains to be seen whether the RE60 will be able to earn a spot with the Nano (or even surpass it). At a news conference in New Delhi just prior to the Delhi AutoExpo, Bajaj told reporters that he would be happy to sell the RE60 to consumers, even though his target market was rickshaw drivers. Just as many were likely wary when the Nano came onto the market, so, too, will the RE60 have to win its way into the hearts and minds of Indians.

Reports indicate that the US is on a molasses-slow road to recovery, although the success of that recovery largely hinges the European Debt Crisis and whether the plan set forth by Chancellor Merkel and President Sarkozy is effective. However, as the world trains their eyes on the west, India’s currency has quietly slipped into the worst performing currency in Asia.

The rupee has slowly dropped since August and this past week took a nosedive, falling to the already weak dollar. The Reserve Bank will make an announcement this Friday to address concerns of investors.

The DNA of global finance is so Gordian, you’d need a masters in finance to parse the details. Even lifelong economists are having trouble piecing this moment in history together. What we do know is that India is Asia’s third largest economy and an important trading partner with both Europe and the United States.

With ongoing financial tumult, particularly in the 17-nation Eurozone, with which India does most of its trading, investors have begun to flee the market, leaving India vulnerable to flux in the unstable Eurozone. India’s current account deficit is in the red and puts India in a position of over dependency on short-term capital flow to cover it.

As the rupee falls in value due to inflation, exports are seeing a small boost, but if the inflation continues economic growth could be jeopardized; the country’s workforce would be stagnant and count almost exclusively on the unreliable Euro markets.

The challenge that emeging markets are facing–and that especially includes markets in Asia–is, ironically, too much growth.

David Carbon, a researcher at one of Southeast Asia’s most prestigious banks (DBS), explains the problem as such: “[When] growth is too fast and inflation is too high [and continues to accelerate]” then that increases the number of people who are in poverty, by weakening Purchasing Power Parity. In layman’s terms, if you are making 150% of the salary that you made last month, but food and basic items take up most of your budget, and the price of these items has increased by 200%, then you have actually become more poor, even if your paycheck looks bigger. This problem is particularly prevalent in China, India, and Vietnam. India’s inflation rate is almost 10% and Vietnam’s is more than twice as bad. The increasing price of good’s creates a lifestyle that is unsustainable for the working poor in these countries. Here are some grim statistics quoted from the business section of Dawn:

-The Asian Development Bank estimates that a 10 per cent increase in food prices drags another 64 million people below the $1.25 a day poverty line.

-A 20 per cent increase in prices pushes up the number in poverty by 129 million.

The question of whether all these financial problems are related is a tricky one. It’s certainly too obtuse to say that Western economies have a causal effect on Asian economies, though the two are tied through trade. These countries’ problems are generally of their own making and a lot of bad factors are coincidentally happening at the same time.

The key for emerging markets like India and China is to get inflation under control. If they stay the course, their currencies will become valueless in the global market and stall domestic growth considerably, leaving India unable to pay for anything.

Terming it a shocker, Sterlite Finance Director Tarun Jain said the average tenure of foreign currency loans was typically five years. “Even if you amortise this 20 per cent fall in the rupee over the life of the loan, it’s four per cent per annum. On top of that, if you cover in forwards by paying six-seven per cent premium per year and then have the average borrowing cost of five-six per cent, then the borrowing cost is in the range of 15-16 per cent. How can big infrastructure projects come up?”

Experts say the worst is yet to come; let’s hope they are wrong.
