Widespread effects are being observed in Noida(India) after sealing of illegal mobile towers in Noida. 250 out of the 600 illegal towers are already sealed and the action could be taken anytime against the remaining illegal towers. The sudden action against illegal towers have created a serious connectivity problem for the subscribers in Noida region.

According to the guidelines, mobile towers should not be located in the 100 meters radius of schools, hospitals and other residential areas. Also the mobile operator must take a No objection certificate from residential welfare associations.

According to a senior Noida official, it is here that the crux of the problem lies as mobile operators installed towers without taking clearances and now the authorities are sealing all illegal towers.

On the other hand, mobile industry associations are crying foul, alleging that the civic authorities did not give them time or notices before taking action. To get immediate relief, they are even contemplating moving court to end the sealing drive.

The impact of the sealing drive could be seen easily, Consumers are facing call drops and frequent disruption of Internet connectivity.

Meanwhile, the crisis could hit mobile users in Delhi telecom circle if authorities in the Capital decide to follow suit. Officials of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will take up the issue on Friday. Said a senior MCD official, “We are going to meet the deputy commissioners of all 12 zones to assess the ground situation and to verify if the initial list of 900 illegal towers in the city is correct. We will then initiate action against the illegal towers. A meeting with various stakeholders is also expected to take place to discuss the cellular tower policy.”
