No Conviction For Cyber Crime In Karnatka From Nine Years
Even though, Cyber Experts talk about the rapid increase of online crimes daily but Even after Nine years of IT Act 2000 has been passed, There has been No conviction for cyber crimes such as hacking, email fraud etc in Karnatka.
This fact was revealed by D V Guruprasad, DG of Corps of Detectives (CoD) at the 3rd anniversary celebrations of the cyber lab at the CoD headquarters in Banglore.
According to Guruprasad ” The Cyber Crime Police Station was inaugurated in 2000, few months after the IT Act 2000 had been passed. From then only 307 cases have been registered till date at the annual average of 37 cases , out of which 60 cases went to court, But there had not been a single conviction till now.”
The fact looks shocking, especially in Cities Like Banglore which is considered as major IT hub of India with offices of all Major MNC’s like Accenture, Wipro etc.
According to Guruprasad ” The main reason behind no conviction till now is inadequate training of Investigating officers about Cyber Crime. ”
He said that most of the police officials who are not associated with Cyber Police station don’t even know basics of computer like “what is a hard disc” which makes the investigation really difficult for them.
According to Guruprasad “Even after the amendment of IT Act in 2009, There is a need to educate people and increase the awareness about cyber crimes among them”.
