The Online social networking Giant Facebook has decided to make Hyderabad as its first destination in Asia. According to a statement released by Facebook, Facebook is ready to set up its first support center in India. The Hyderabad Center of Facebook would house online advertising and developer support teams and provide round-the-clock, multi-lingual support to the social networking sites users and advertisers globally.
The company has not made any comments about the investment they are going to make and the engineers they are going to recruit for their Hyderabad center. But hiring has begun and company has started recruiting the online sales and operational teams.
Don Faul, Director, Global Online Operations, Facebook said ” We examined a number of options and chose Hyderabad because it is home to a talented, skilled pool of people who will help us to build a worldclass team of specialists in user, advertiser, and developer operations”
According to recent stats , Facebook has more than 400 million active users. Out of which 70% of users are outside US and around Eight millions are from India.
A recent Survey conducted by The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Assocham) shows that office staff on average spend an hour a day on sites like Facebook,Orkut, Myspace and Linkedin which reduces their overall productivity by 12.5%.
Office Staff use these sites for purposes which are not related to their work . The results are based on responses from nearly 4,000 corporate employees between the ages of 21 and 60 in Delhi, Bangalore, Madras (Chennai), Cochin, Indore, Ahmedabad, Surat, Mumbai (Bombay), Pune, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Lucknow and Kanpur.
According to Assocham 12.5% loss in Productivity is dangerous for companies.
It is interesting to know that more that 77% of employees access Orkut accounts and more than 50% surf facebook in their working hours.
Other interesting finding from research is that More that Four in Each Ten Employees were not aware of Orkut and Facebook before their Jobs and Create their complete profile after joining company in working hours.
According to Survey only 19% of Indian Companies allow surfing social networking sites, Out of which 16% allow their use only for Business purposes and not for personal use. But on the other Hand 83% of employees saw nothing wrong in surfing at work during office hours.
